SOCIAL SEA LIONS

When I went on the Adventure Education trip, I had several goals. One goal was to learn about the wildlife of the San Juan Island’s. My favorite wildlife quickly became the sea lions. We saw them almost every day. We saw sea lions on our way to Spencer Spit. Some swam gracefully in the water, like sleek furry bullets, others sunned themselves lazily on warm rocks. Sea lions are the laziest things I have ever seen. When the boats got too close, they roared and bellowed at us!

Sea lions have lots of fat which is good for keeping them warm while they’re swimming and during the winter. They also have lots of fur and muscle which is good for swimming and keeping warm. When sea lions stretch out and roar, they look like they are the kings and queens of the rocks. While they were sunbathing and being lazy, we were working on the boats - very hard. Almost everybody on the boats ohhed and ahhed while we went by. I’ve seen lots of sea lions in my day and these were the biggest I’ve ever seen. Experiencing wildlife like sea lions up close, makes me appreciate living in Washington state.
