How do you feel about captive breeding programs for endangered species such as Giant Pandas?

Share Your Response

Windland, thanks for sharing this great story and photos!

My feelings about captive breeding programs are that they are a necessary evil to insure their survival. The doom and gloom scenario is that this will be the only way that some of these species survive.

Preferrably, I would like to see a world in which humans adopt sustainable lifestyles on the planet that insure a place for these animals in their natural habitats.

It's not about preserving these creatures in preserves that only a few actually get to go see. It doesn't matter, for instance, that I may never physically go to some far-off location to see a panda or a tiger in the wild.

That's not the point for my concern that they survive in the wild. The point is that these creatures belong as part of an intact eco-system that we've decided to preserve on this planet for future generations. It's the right, just and ultimately healthy thing to do.
