Bill Dietrich
Field Reporter
William (Bill) Dietrich, was a newspaper journalist for 25 years, most recently as a science and environment reporter at the Seattle Times, before leaving in 1997 to write books and freelance. He shared a Pulitzer Prize in 1990 for coverage of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 1987-88, won several science fellowships, and has reported on global warming issues in the Arctic and Antarctic. He is a recipient of the Washington Governor Writer's Award and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award. Dietrich is the author of two non-fiction books - "The Final Forest: The Battle for the Last Great Trees of the Pacific Northwest" (1992) and "Northwest Passage: The Great Columbia River" (1995). His novels, which draw on his journalism experiences, include "Ice Reich" (1998), "Getting Back" (2000), and "Dark Winter" (2001). His novels have been translated into nine languages. He is working on another novel and a collection of natural history essays first published in the Seattle Times. Dietrich lives in Anacortes, WA.
Holly Dietrich

Holly Dietrich is an elementary school teacher and a writer, with a Masters degree in Education. She believes that learning about science and the natural world improves children's thinking and communication skills and teaches respect for the Earth and its people. Gary Braasch
Photographer
Environmental photographer Gary Braasch covers natural history and conservational issues for magazines worldwide and is the author of Secrets of the Old Growth Forest and Photographing the Patterns of Nature. He currently is researching and photographing areas of high biodiversity in North and South America and is documenting the effects of CLIMATE CHANGE worldwide. His current work has led him to photograph in Antarctica, the Arctic, the Andes, Alps and Rocky Mountains along with covering the coral reefs of Indonesia. Braasch currently has a 30-print exhibit entitled Polar Thaw on tour through the United States. Denise Rocco
Executive Producer, Digital Photographer
As Executive Producer, Rocco's job has been that of bringing FusionSpark Media web productions to life. She is known as one of the leading documentary photographers working on the aggressive edge of digital expedition photojournalism for the past several years. Her work has been recognized by respected photography publications such as Photo District News, Vogue Magazine, American Photo, and National Geographic's Online Visions Gallery. She was a key contributor to the online adventure travel projects TerraQuest and Expedia's Mungo Park. Her work has also appeared in the photography books One Digital Day, Passage to Vietnam, and 24 Hours in CyberSpace. She is the recent winner of an Addy Award for photography she created for a Girl Scouts of America promotional campaign.
Toby Malina
Field Technician
Toby has spent the past twelve years working as a technical consultant in the computer field. In 1995, she joined Thunder Lizard Productions, a Seattle-based conference production company, as Technical/Editorial Director. The principal of MacDaddy Consulting, Toby is currently working with a number of companies as, among other things, technical director, producer, and editor. In addition to these continuing relationships, she has just joined Avondale Media, creators of interactive, hands-on training DVDs, as their technical director. Toby is coauthor of the 3-volume Web Site Graphics series and works as a technical/copy editor for many publishers including Peachpit Press, IDG Books, and Que Publishing.
Jason Roberts
Team Field Guide
Trained as a conservation biologist, Jason's interests have always spanned nature and technology. He currently works full-time at Forum One Communications helping design and build Internet systems to support social and environmental programs. He has first-hand experience with the cloud forests of Monteverde, beginning in 1998 with research on forest regeneration in former farmland. He recently returned to live for a year in Monteverde serving as Webmaster and Field Manager in constructing www.cloudforestalive.org. This project, designed by the staff of Forum One, uses modern web technologies to showcase the beauty and diversity of this relatively remote location, including live webcasts from inside the nests of Resplendent Quetzals. Jason continues to be highly involved in the interface of biology and the Internet. He is especially interested in applications such as the Cloud Forest Alive Guide Lessons, which empower the local Costa Rican guides to share their knowledge with the world through the power of the Web.
Eduardo Herrera Fernandez
Videographer
He has been working in documentaries about Latin America, as director, cinematographer and editor for the past twelve years. He has worked in documentaries such as A Place Called Chiapas, directed by Nettie Wild, from Canada, and Knorosov: The Decifering of the Mayan Script, with Tiahoga Ruge, that recently received many awards at the Festival Pantalla de Cristal 2000 in Mexico City. In 1998, with Sierra Madre, he coproduced the documentary The Return of the Pronghorn. He is committed to shooting other conservation projects in which Unidos para la Conservacion A.C is working: Jaguar: Lord of the Mayan Jungle, in southern Mexico; About Black Bears and Calfs, in Coahuila and Texas; and The Big Horn Desert Sheep, from the Tiburon Island proyect supported by the Rockefeller Foundation, and other wildlife conservation stories.
